I'm going to look at a MF-35 tractor (1964 model) that is for sale this Saturday. It is a gas engine and has power steering (that's about all I know about it) I was just wondering if there was anything I should be aware of or look for. He said the PS had a leak. He said a seal....but it could be something else.

Thanks Dave

Dave, I have a MF165 with PS. The seal in the cylender was leaking. When I talked to an old MF Mechanic, he said that replacing the seal would do no good, they wear egg shaped. I used some transmission stop leak in the power steering fluid and cured my leak. Maybe you will be as lucky. Moye

I purchased a 35 about two months ago. Have not regreted it. The tractor is used mainly for mowing but will evently pull a small harrow, and blade. We have the MF-35 and a MF-50. I have been told the 35 and 50 are the same tractor except the 50 is called a high row tractor. The 50 has had no work done on it except oil changes for the last twenty-five years. So I guess they are fairly good tractors. I only gave $2,400 for the 35. Texas price.

Here is what to look for. Make sure the machine was US made. The tag will say made in Detroit etc. Power steering can be very expensive to fix, more expensive than the value of the machine. MF 35 parts are sometimes difficult to obtain. Stop by a dealer and ask if a particular part is still made. English made models have a different setup and the steering can be even more difficult to get parts for in the US.
