I want to know what model my tractor is.
It is an industrial tractor, yellow painted.
It has a 3 cyl. Perkins eingine, a six speed gearbox and power steering. The rear axle looks like a MF65.

Hi Tony -

More clues needed, as in post below.

Any serial number? (Plate on lower part of instrument panel, ahead of your right knee.) Might also indicate where it was manufactured.

Is the Perkins an A3 or AD3? The earlier A3 had injectors mounted vertically; later AD3 had injectors mounted on a slant in the head.

Is the power steering actuated by 2 cylinders on the front axle, or one cyl in front of the radiator?

If two cylinders, are there 2 two drag links from the front spindles back to arms on the steering gear box, or no connections except hydraulic lines?

And the power steering pump - is it a small pump with a separate reservoir, or a pump and reservoir combined?
If combined, is the reservoir a flat can about 60-70 mm wide, or a long can perhaps 100 mm dia by 200 mm long?

This could help tie it down.

Hallo Jack

Thank you for helping me out.

The plate on the instrument panel shows NM702642 or SNM702642. I'm not sure because the plate is
difficult to read.

The power steering is actuated by two cylinders on the front axle, and there are two drag links mounted.

The power steering pump is missing, but a seperate reservoir is still there.

I think the engine is an A3.

Hi Tony -

Getting there. The serial number is different from any references I have - mine stop in the 400,000's. The SNM appears to be used in the Masseys up to perhaps 1965 in US production. the SNM meant standard clearance, Diesel, dual clutch.

Serial number site:

The steering cylinder configuration is similar to that shown for the MHF 202, MF 202 and 204 in the I&T shop manual MF-14. It shows a pump with a reservoir on top, but there are some units (like our early 65) with separate reservoirs.

This manual will cover most of your repair needs - engine, transmission, etc. It is available from our hosts Yesterday's Tractors.

The control valve shown for the 200's (and american 35, 135) is a block surrounding the steering column on top of the steering gear box. Is this similar to yours? I think the european units had a separate control valve bolted to the side of the column.

You might contact Bill Brox in Norway - [email protected] - with the info you have so far. He might help to narrow it down more closely.

Good Luck!

Jack

Sure about the seperate reservoir?
AFAIK the pomp with reservoir is mounted on the right side of the engine driven by gears from the crankshaft.

Look on the left side of the engine under the engines head at the middle of the block. There should be a plate with engine number and type stamped on it.
Also there could be instead of the throttle pedal on the right side three little pedals ; one for going forward , one for going backwards and one as usual, At least our MF 50 had it.

Hallo again!

I found out what model I have!
When I removed several layers of paint from the hood, there it was. I could still read it:
Massey Ferguson 203.

I looked for a manual and found two books
One almost on top of the list :
201,202,203 service manual, 87 pages and
more down in the list:
MF 203, service manual, 269 pages.
Who can tell me wich one is the right one for me?
Can anyone tell me if this model was produced in Canada, USA or the UK. If so, is there any difference between European and Amarican models?
Can I use an American service manual for an European tractor??

Tony
