: My 1976 Massey Ferguson 255 diesel has Multi Power : but no remote hydraulics. I have considered : installing these hydraulics that would not allow : the use of the 3 point hitch at the same time. : Some 255's have an auxillary pump and at one time : I asked and was told that the auxillary pump could : not be added since it was not original equipment. : I now have been told that since it is equiped with : Multi Power that it has a high capicity pump and : that an auxillary pump could be installed which : would allow the use of the 3 point hitch and : remote hydralics at the same time. : Can anyone tell me if this tractor could have the : auxillary pump added? : Will this allow the 3 point hitch and remote : cylinder to be used at the same time? : If a frontend loader was obtained would it operate : better because of the addition of the auxillary : pump? : If the pump could not be installed would I still : have enough fluid capicity for the loader to handle : large rolls of hay? : Thanks from Tupelo, Mississippi. Phil, We have a 1977 MF255D and have also had hydraulic problems. 1st, you cannot put a front mounted hydraulic pump on this tractor as it was not designed for it. The aux pump that you are speaking of is a 10 gpm 2500 psi and is mounted internally, however several things must be asertained prior to going further at this point. Sitting on the tractor seat, do you have a round plate on the side of the transmission just above the pto lever? If so, this is the port in which hydraulic lines will lead to the (factory) hydraulic control valve and filter for running the rear hydraulics and/or front loader. If not, cancel the idea and trade the tractor for one suitably equipped. You may want to consider this anyway as what you are proposing will be quite expensive. In order to install the aux pump, mounting frame, and hoses, you will need to split the tractor in half. I do not know what the individual components cost, however, the factory pump can be held in the palm of your hand and costs $748. Our pump had a factory failure at 2618 hours. Once we understood the system, it only took a day to split the tractor, make the installation, and re-assemble. However, I truly believe you will want to speak to a factory hydraulics man before attempting your endeavor to see if it is financially possible. They are great little tractors but they do have some interesting factory designs, to say the least. 2 other notes: 1) with this type of hydraulics for a front-end loader, you will lose all hydraulics as soon as you push the clutch in fully; 2) the aux pump will easily handle your bale problem and the 3 pt will work at the same time as the hydraulics as the 3 pt is on a separate circuit. Hope this is what you are looking for. e-mail me if you need more info.
