I have the opportunity to purchase a low hrs (3000 hrs) but weathered 1975 MF 165 diesel, ps, for (I think) $5500 including a 5 foot bushhog, some harrows, and a bottom plow. Does this seem reasonable? I have also heard that there is a MF model which has cronic steering sector seal problems. Is this the MF 165? I'm just a tractor novice so far (Farmall Cub) so bear with me if such Q's seem ignorant. I'm going to look this weekend is there anything to particularly look for?

I purchased a very rough 165 diesel for $4000 it looks like someone ran it through the woods, it runs great but the 3point would not come down when the tractor was started...I had to split the tractor and replace the control valve I did it myself, it cost me less than $200 but it works fine. $4000 may seem high to some for such a rough beast but a nice one around here is selling for $6200 to $6900, again I think this is steep. So for what thats worth.

I had seals leaking on my MF-135 steering gear several years ago and fixed them. I was working on it this evening and see there's a general oilly condition below the steering gear again that has gathered lots of dirt and grunge. Probable they still leak because I didn't replace the shafts with the seals or something like that.

After I fix the stuff I'm working on now, I hope to get about that for the MF-135 with new back tires, without implements, though a plow might be negotiable.
