I have a chance to purchase a 1976 MF70 industrial tractor loader/ backhoe. The machine is in fair shape, it runs well, has hydrostatic trans, pins and bushings in the hoe are good and it doesn't seem to have any welds anywhere but the bucket. problem, the machine has no brakes, what kind of job am I looking at? The problem with the brakes is the brake bands, I have changed the steering brakes on a JD450 is the same kind of deal? The machine is powered by a 3 cyl perkins diesel and has a full heated cab, they want $7,500.00 for the machine, would this be a good buy? Thanks for the help McI

I bought my MF 70 2 years ago with 100 hours on a rebuilt 4-138 engine and a new hydraulic pump for the loader/backhoe controls. Everything else worked just fine. It cost me $8000. so I don't know if it was a good deal or not but I haven't had any troubles except hoses breaking. I hope this helps for a comparison.

Bought one last year. Blown motor, needed some lines replaced, and new glass in cab. Paided $2900.
After repairs it should end up around $5k-$6k.
Still happy but you'll find parts are hard to find. Mine was built in 1978.

that's the engin mine has. My husband passed away and I have an offer for 5,000. Should I take it and go or hold up for more money. Mine also has no brakes otherwise runs and works great. I can't seem to find any information on it on the web. Any help would be appreciated. Thank's.

I have an MF 40 Ind. and it is a very good unit, I also had no brakes and had them done for about 900.00 its not the parts but it is very labor intense. PS make sure you have the actuators checked, my mechanic didnt and had to redo the job which meant lots more down time. Good Luck.
