Hi. Am wandering why some Massey's were called 101 senior and some 102 senior when they were the same tractor. I know they both had the 226 continental engine. Frank

Frank, Actually, the early 102 Sr used a 244 cu in engine. It was designed to run on kerosene. The later models were both gas but the 102 was an export designation. I know it's a little confusing, but that's the info I have. The 102 Sr Row crop is actually pretty rare. they made less than 300 of them. Hope this helped - ALAN

Yes, up here the version we come across all the time is actually the 102 Seniors especially on later models. A similar thing happened with the 101 and 102 Juniors. Originally, the 101 Jr was the gas version and the 102 Jr was the distillate fuel version. I believe this continued in the states throughout production but about '43 or so, all of the 4 cylinder tractors that were exported to Canada were designated as 102's even though they were gas-powered tractors.

My MH 101 senior was powered by a 6 cylinder Chrysler

Ray...according to Keith Oltrogges Massey Data Book the 101 and the 101 Super had the Chrysler industrials, then in 1942-1946, the 101 Senior had the Continentals. If yours is a Senior and has a Chrysler, I suspect somebody did the ol' switcheroo.
