A local dealer is trying to sell me a model 175 in fair working condition for $6500.00 I'm kind of new to this and i saw a couple other similar models sold for around $4200 in the tractor values sections. Would I be getting ripped off?

Paul,

That is a little high, I recently saw one in fair ++ condition and it appriased for about 5500.00. For that model tractor I would not want to go much over the 5500.00 mark, (6000 if in excellent condition)

Paul...I paid $6000 for mine (a 1972 Perkins diesel) in a TN a few years ago. It had a new clutch and the tires were almost new. The hourmeter was over 5000 and I have no idea if it was ever rebuilt but it runs great and doesn't use oil. Also it doesn't smoke and is a piece of cake to start. My guess it was rebuilt somewhere in its life. I might have gotten one for $5500 (never seen one less than $5K) but I was able to drive this one home (3 miles) from a dealer I know.

I've also seen 165 diesels for about the same as 175s. I'd say yours is on the high side of normal but not out of the question. If it is in good shape it might be right on. You might also want to find a local mechanic to check it out.

I am assuming the one you are looking at is diesel. Gas should be less. Good luck....Bob
