Need motor parts for the cont 6cyl motor. Auto parts store cataloges 2 versions of the cont 226. One is called an OHV (over head Valve?) . the other is called an L head. Parts guy and I both felt the OHV means the valves are in the head and the L head must mean the flat head ( valves in block) that i have. Catalog says that the Massy is the OHV engine . Can anyone help with the right definition of the motor in the massy. Parts are all special order with a restocking fee so want to get it right the first time. Thanks

I forgot to say in my earlier message that the F226 engines in the Jeep are flathead or at least the one I have is.

The F226 engine was also used in some Jeep vehicles 1965 & earlier. I'm not sure how many differences, if any there are between them but they have the same bore & stroke. You might have better luck finding parts for the automotive application like from NAPA store. I priced parts for a F140 in a 22 there about 6 months ago & they could supply bearings, gaskets & rings.

JC Whitney still has Grant rings for about $25.00 a set for the F226 in the Jeep. They had pistons listed until about a year or so ago.

Hope this helps.
John

I think the catalog is wrong. The only F226 I know of is the L head (flat head). I've only seen flatheads in the 44-6. I restored a 101 Senior with a F226, and had a parts tractor. I have lots of extra parts for the F226. Let me know

I"m thinking the catalog is wrong too, but checking both from the massy listing ,the book says the 44-6 and 101 use the 226 ohv. Looking in the continetal listing it states that the 226ohv is used in the massys and the 226 L head is listed as "industrial uses". I've seen these engines in older forklifts and payloaders and they sure look the same as whats in the massy.

The engine Mics out fairly decent and I have a spare engine so am in good shape for most parts. Just need rings, bearings, pin bushings and gaskets etc.

Thanks for the info
