I just found out my tractor is a 1975 Multi power.
My f-i-l didn't get me the serial # but he got the engine and trany #s...
Eng. 37112600X
Tran. 894682MI
What does multi power mean?
I'm not really this ignorant...I just don't know a whole lot about tractors.

In high range the tractor will hold back with the engine. In low range it will have no engine hold back. and get you killed going down hill with a load. the other post was wrong

Bob covered most of it quite well. The only point I would like to add is that the multi-power has to be in high range for you to have any engine braking. If you head down a hill in high gear, it will run away like it's in neutral.

Shifts a lot easier in low range when you're stopped though.

Mr. Lynch...MF Multi Power is a "torque amplifier", an "on the fly" additional set of gearing so when extra torque is needed a lower range can be selected without stopping. Otherwise shifting in to a lower gear or the low range requires you to stop first on the 175 or you'll grind the gears. Your MF 175 Operator's Manual will tell you how it is operated. My 175 either doesn't have it or it has been deactivated. Now I may not have described it correctly here so if anyone can correct me please do so....Bob
