My 44 wide front, I think is a special, no SN, has bendix type brakes. With all the Attached bolts removed according to the manual, it feels like maybe the brake drum is stuck in a groove and I can't get the plate off. There is 4 bolts that must have nuts on the inside and they keep turning. The star wheel is locked up can't get it to move either way. I was thinking about cutting the heads off the 4 bolts thinking I could get the plate off to see what I have. Do you have any suggestions?

You have a serial number on your tractor. It is located on top of the transmission right behind the lever that you pull out to start your PTO.

Tom W. you are right. I ground off some paint and there it was, the serial number. Thanks for your help. Joe

Hi Joe:
I just did this on my 55,you can use an impact wrench and socket, some of them will come all the way off some may just come loose before the nut spins.Next remove the big nut that holds the activating lever as this is the brake anchor pin,by now it will come out of the drum,if it don't cut off the remaining bolt heads. You will likely find that drum badly worn.
good luck
Wayne

Wayne, My friend Don and I cut off the bolt heads and removed the brake drum assy. It was rusted tight, doubt if it had ever been removed before. The brake shoes were good although the drum had considerable wear. We cleaned and lubed all the moving parts, reinstalled the assy and the brakes on that wheel work good. Thanks for your help.
