I have recently purchased a Massey Harris Twin Power Super 101 Sr. I dont know much about these tractors. I need a front grill and side screens for the tractor. It has round top fenders and flat spoke rear wheels. The crysler engine turns over but it wont start on its own, i will have to pull it to start it. It is a 1942 model. My main question is what does the B stand for in the shift pattern. I notice that when you shift into that position then the rod moves that goes up to the governor. I realize that the rod speeds up the engine when shifted into that gear but did not know what the B stands for or the reason that the tractor was made this way? What is this tractor really worth? Any info appreciated! Also need to know someone who has grill and sidescreens that are reasonably priced.

First off, I think you have a Super 101, not a 101 Senior. The Seniors had the Continental flathead 6 cylinder engine while the Supers used the Chryslers. As far as finding a grille and the sidecovers, finding used ones is almost impossible (especially anything decent) but there are guys who make the sidecovers in the aftermarket. Check on the Massey Board, someone there will know. The "B" on the shifting platform stands for "Belt" as in the belt pulley. This was really the TWIN POWER feature. You'll notice that shifting your tractor into the B position or into 4th (road) gear, that long control rod from the right front of the tranny to the governor will move. What it does is somehow bypass the regular governor control for engine RPM's and it allows the engine to rev higher when using the belt (if you wish to be in the B position) or in road gear for travelling. It does not activate that feature when in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or regular neutral. Actually, the B is really another neutral so to speak. Good luck with your project.

Forgot to ask how many cubic inches is the crysler engine. Is it bigger than the continental, harder or easier to find parts for it.

I believe the 101 Supers had the Chrysler model T96 or T116 engine which displaced 217 cubic inches. I'm not sure if those engines were too much different from each other. They had a 3 1/4" bore and a 4 3/8" stroke. I would guess the Chrysler engine would have parts more readily availbl;e but that's just a guess.

Any kind of estimate of how much this tractor would bring in your area in good shape?

Never seen one of the 101 Supers for sale up here but a friend of mine has one (probably like yours with no panels and work needed) who bought it for $500 Canadian ($300 US). But tractor prices are funny things. I always think of two things, does it run (and shift through the gears) and what is the rear rubber like? If it's got those two features, then it's worthwhile considering. Tractor values are tough to determine. Myself, I always think of $1000 maximum investment after I'm finished, then I know I'll get my money back out if I have to.
