What kind of oil is in the transmission? External P/S pump? It looks like it has planetary drives on the ends of the axle is there lube seperate? It looks like the transmission lube is also the final drive and hydraulic oil, so I would guess it would be hydraulic oil rated as also trans/final drive lube.

You're right.. a combination hydraulic/transmission fluid.. "Permatran III" is the MF branded name. It has a MIL spec number so you can get any equivalent fluid.

Here's a link to a good MF site. It belongs to a former MF dealer mechanic, and has lots of useful info. I have a MF165D also. Seems to be a good tractor so far.
