Ok: I'm going to have to conceed, I am ignorant about a lot of tractor mechanics, but I need another "simple" question answered. I recently recieved my reprint TO-35 manual. In the manual it says the TO-35 is a 12 volt system. Yet several people have told me they were a 6 volt tractor, including the auto parts store. I had to replace the coil and put a 6 volt one on. I have had the carb rebuilt, worked on the points, and it still will stall out under load or high idle. (I also cleaned the gunk out of the oil air cleaner - it was more like grease) It has a six volt battery in it, but someone could have put the worng battery in it. My TO-35 was made in 1957. It is a TO-35 deluxe. Now if it was an old CASE VA, like my other tractor I could figure it out. However I am new to the MF tractor as it came with my new house. I need help!!!!!

Rob - when the TO-35 was introduced (SN 140001) in 1954 it had a 6v (+ ground) electrical system. In 1955 at SN 161250 they went to a 12v (- ground) system. Many tractors were converted from 6v to 12v in the belief that the system was superior. If a 6v system is properly maintained it will work just fine.

Thanks for the info. This tractor is really sick I think. It looks to me that it has 12 and 6 volt parts. Regulator is 12, battery 6, can't tell about the generator, and the auto parts store told me it was 6 so I put on a 6 volt coil (the old one was completley destroyed). I think I need help. I had the carb redone, the starter fixed, and it runs ok until under load

Hi:

Thanks for the info. I know just enough about mechanicing to get in trouble. I know the distributor is suppose to advance as the engine is reved, or comes under load, but I don't know how to check it. Can you tell me how to do it? I also found the trottle linkage and govenor linkage was misaligned, but fixing that only helped a little, it still dies under load or just accelerating the eng
