Brake job on MF 180...how hard?

My 180's needing brakes bad, and I'm wondering if this is something that I can do myself or if I should have someone else with better equipment do it?

I have decent mechanical ability, but other than an impact gun, I'm mostly limited to hand tools. I'd mostly like to know if the tractor needs to be split to do this, or the wheels removed, etc., both of which would probably be more than I have the equipment for.

If I have a dealer or private repair shop do this, what should I expect them to charge?

Thanks,

Steve NW WI

You need a good level place to jack the tractor up and like Kent said you will need a helper to handle the tires. A cherry picker would be helpful to pull the axle housings off of the tractor. I would also replace the axle seals and the differential lock seal while I had it out.

Steve, When I had to do this the job of removing the ballasted tires was the only big deal. You better get a manual. As I recall once we took off the tires we pulled the axel housing to access the brakes. We did not even have a impact wrench so you are high tec. You will need a helper to remove the wheels and axel case. Good Luck
