Sure could use some help. Last winter my 3PT hitch was useless. I though it was because their is some water in the oil, and causing a freezing problem. But I'm not sure, summer time I can pick up a 3 bottom plow, turn off the tractor, and it will hold for a good 10 minuts. But after looking at the archives on what type of (gear lube, hydraulic oil, transmission oil) to use, I am confused. My Operator's Manual call for SAE 90 above 50 F, and SAE 80 below 50 F. Some of you say that SAF 80/90 is to heavy for cold weather, while others say anything liter will eat up my gears. Is there a good year around oil? If I have to change oil spring and fall how liter of a oil can I use and be safe?? Can the water in my oil have caused my problem last winter??
And please before you answer go to your MF dealer to get massey oil, it is one hour away and will cost me half a days pay, because I can not get there before they close.

thanks for the help
Todd

Todd the MF65 uses 80/90 WT. Trans/Hyd oil. It is a mineral oil. not gear oil. On my Massey Ferguson tips web site there is an article covering that on page 3 called gear oil used in older tractors. If you had water in your oil it could very well have been your problem.
