Has anyone heard of a modification which can be done to the cylinder head on a 4 cylinder Standard
diesel to make it start easier.

The pre-combustion chamber is drilled with a 5/32"
drill straight down through the existing hole, which
is on about a 45 degree angle.

I am not sold on this idea but have been told that it works.

Has anyone else heard tell of this?

Hello Trent -

I've heard of it, from an old MF dealer. I'm not sure how effective it was - ours was not fitted.

The best approach seems to be functioning intake manifold heater (or glow plugs on the later models) supplemented with a block heater or heater in the lower rad hose. Possibly the 300 watt magnetic block heaters would work as well. 15 minutes with the block heater in the summer, an hour or so in the winter, and it's away for the day.

Hi Jack,

Would the MF dealer have been a guy by the name of
"Red Richard" from somewhere in New Brunswick?

I noticed you signed "Jack from NB". I assume NB is New Brunswick.
