I'm looking at a MF 184-4 about 1978. It's pretty beat, and only 2 wheel drive at the moment. It has a blown front u-joint on one side, probably needs inner and outer shafts and the u-joint cage plus other bits & pieces. It has planetary front drive, and offset planetaries on the rear. Any feedback on this model? Any problems in running as a 2wd tractor?
Ralph

I think it is a Landini with AD4236 CID engine. Look for a manual pto clutch lever. It has an italian front wheel drive, not a Z-F.

YOU ARE CORRECT THE 184-4 WAS MADE BY LANDINI, IF YOU FIND A LANDINI DEALER HIS PRICE FOR PARTS IS CHEAPER BY FAR THAN MASSEY,, AGCO HAS MARKED THEM UP AN IREDIBLE AMOUNT.

I've got one too. I screwed around chasing parts then had the local make almost everything I needed for peanuts.
Front u joint damage can be fixed with a little welding and machining. And I'm no machinist.
The yoke was a piece of sched 80 pipe with the shoulders cut as with the original. Drilled and Welded in washers for the cup retainers, cross referanced the u joints ($10-$20)at the local auto suply and had the steering pins made up on a lathe.($30 each.) A deburring tool and sized drill bits seem to set up the cup bosse just fine.
Its all held togethre for about 5 years now and I've never had the luxury of having breaks, some day.
I guess my only real conflict is with the bird brain that stashed the battery under the air cleaner, in front of the rad. If you have a good loader on this thing you could bust a nut yanking that old cow out of there.
Otherwise this is a sweet, small general purpose machine. Oh ya, CRAPPY ELECTRICS, Lucus.
Good luck.
