Battery not charging

165 battery dies while running. Battery takes charge, starts tractor, runs but when shut off
will not restart. Was told to check generator by removing positive and if tractor dies it is the generator. Tractor kept running. Could this be the voltage regulator and if so is there a test?

Phil, How long between shut down and restart attempt? When battery on charger, does it ever go to zero amps or does it continue to draw current after a lengthy charge? Does the tractor have a working ampmeter and what does it show while running and also shut off? Have you charged the battery out of the tractor and left it sit to see if it will hold a charge?
