Hey guys, what do you think a Massey Harris 44 diesel is worth. This one is a 1951, poor tires, good tin, needs paint, runs good. It has about 5000 hours on it, (so he says). It is a rowcrop, with an adjustable wfe....thanx in advance

I'd pass on a fifty year old diesel. These brutes
were the best running diesels of the era. The HD-260 was a competitor's nightmare, a 44D would
pull to the death. So, numerous owners, no doubt
did just that. A match made in heaven, driven to
hell. The high torque diesel put plenty of stress
on the drivetrain. A complete teardown would cost
2K, if you can find every part. The diesels had
an hour meter by the bellhousing, probably broke
after 15k hrs. A 1953 44GR sold on e bay for
about 800., I believe;looked half decent. Who
is heading to the field with a fifty year old
rebuilt diesel? A far better purchase would be
a Triple 4 gas, in decent shape, for the cost of
the diesel rebuild on that '51 44D. value:risk.
Good luck. Michael

Thanx for the tip....Massey are pretty rare in the Nortwest here. I'd much rather have a 444
