I have an 1974(ish) MF50B backhoe, and I'm concerned about the brakes. They stop well enough, but come on so sharply that I'm afraid to apply them above a slow walking pace. The pedal goes down quite far, pause, then BANG! the brakes come on hard and the pedal rises up.

The brakes are some sort of inboard device embedded in the rear axle (no drums, I don't think). Does it sound like adjustment, or more serious?

Anyone know where I could get manuals for a 50B? It's a UK model, quite common.

Thanks, Tony Smith

Tony Adjusting the brakes will help some. If it has transmission oil with out the wet brake additive or if has not been changed for a while this will make the brake very touchy
