I was mowing with tractor and got it stuck in reverse. I let it cool down to see if that would make a difference but didn t. Any ideas of how to get it out of reverse (so I can get it out of the field would be appreciated.)

You don't say what make or model.

If it's a MH35, 50 or I think 65 you should be able to take the fill plug off next to the gearshift and reach in and move the shift fork with a screwdriver or something.

Another thing that works is to get a punch and drive the pin out that the main gearshift pivots on. Lift the shift lever up a bit, and move the reverse shift fork where it needs to be, back into neutral. Replace the pin and away you go.

That's about the biggest drawback to that era Massey that I've come across. If you lift up on the gearshift lever or get in a hurry shifting into either 1st or reverse, that stuff can happen.

With a little practice you can avoid it, and when it does happen it doesn't have to take that long to fix.

There have been a bunch of posts on this problem in the past.

Good luck.

I decided to lift off the gear lever AFTER I had opened the oil filler plug and the pin holding the gear lever fell into the gearbox!

Fortunately I got it out again using a magnet at the end of a piece of wire.

I felt quite a fool.

You would have felt like a fisherman or tranny drainer or puller aparter if you hadn't gotten it.

I haven't had this happen the few times I had to do it. I will watch it in the future.

Congrats on getting your 135 rolling again.

That shift problem is one of their few drawbacks.

Whoops, you said MF 135. It's late in the day.
