I have a 175 MF, always wanted to operate/own a 180. I pull a 10ft wheel disc with no problem. I often use a 3pt 7ft disk in well worked ground for a easier pull. Use to pull a heavy duty 3pt 7ft bush hog, found it to heavy for the tractor, went to a 11' Woods pull type. Works very well, can cut in low 3 and 4/I cut all our ground at least once yearly so there are no saplings. Pull a 3 disk disk plow/no problem. Pull a 7 shank chiesel plow, can't sink down real deep. Also use a Woods ditch bank mower, this tractor is excellent for getting close on the ditch banks. Hope you enjoy your new tractor.

Congratulations!

My 180 was bought new by my dad in '73, and it's been our main tractor ever since. I pull a 3-16 Kverneland mounted plow or a 4-14 JD plow, depending on conditions, the Kverneland is much better in cornstalks, and the JD rolls sod over much nicer.

I pull a 10' disk easily in plowed ground, I'd get a bigger one, except that I usually pull it with an M Farmall or 44 M-H, and they won't take much more than that.

My 7' bushhog never bogs the motor in tall grass, but it will give it a workout in brush. I'd say thats probably a good size for it.

I've got some pictures of my stuff & some of my neighbor's equipment on WebPhotos.com. The link is below.

PS The other guys are right about the drawbar bolts. I replaced mine with new bolts, cleaned the holes out really good, and then used loctite on them. This has worked so far, about 1 1/2 years, but I still check them before doing any serious work.

My Dad has a 180 he bought new in '66. I grew up pulling a baler and swather with it. They are good tractors.

When we were trying to get soybeans in we would use it for a second plowing tractor. I pulled a 14' tandem disc harrow quite a few hours in loamy sand mixing chemicals in. If it was a hot day, 95+, you better be on short rows or she'd get too hot before you could get her turned back into the wind.

Much less often we would use a much heavier 8' offset disc harrow with 9-1/2" disc spacing to break up wheat stubble. We didn't do it very often because it was too much for it. She could pull it but if it was over 85 deg she would get too hot. The 3020 JD we had never got hot though. It wouldn't pull it.

Ted, We have used a 180 diesel for over 20 years primarily with a 7' bush hog. It does a good job, would probably handle a larger one, but we have worked ours fairly hard ( small trees large multiflora rose etc...) never had too much for it to tackle with a 7'. We have never had much of a need to work ground with it, 10' disk and a three bottom 16" plow is all we have ever used with it. You might want to check the bolts under the tractor where the draw bar attaches to the bottom of the transmission, ours had lose bolts that ended up broken. If we had checked them more often it would have saved us some headaches. Kent

I second the notion of keeping the bolts tight that hold the drawbar on, I "lost" my roundbaler last summer after the drawbar fell off, didn't break much, just got lucky. A 8 ft. mower will work fine. One of the most dependable tractors I have owned.

Whats an MF 180? we are familiar with the 175,178 and 185, {66,72 and 75 hp respectively} here in England, but the 180 is probably hardly known here. there use to be the MF1080, {88hp} but it got a bad name over here, a bit underpowered and very unreliable, but the others I mentioned above were very highly thought of.

Johnny's right, the 180 is the "deluxe" version of the 175, 62PTO hp, 236 Perkins diesel ( I think you could get a gas version, but I've never seen one) I've got some pics of my 180 on WebPhotos.com, and if you'd like more, e-mail me & I can take some more for you.

Roy, the 180 is basically the same as a 175, motor, trans, etc. the only differences I can recall is the 180 might have a little more ground clearance than 175,also has a flat deck design for the operator platform it puts you up out of the dust a little better and I can see where I am going a little better than with the 175.
