I'm new to tractors but I'm enjoying my 1962 MF 35 a lot with very few problems. However, what about cold starting? How do I go about installing a block heater in the Perkins 3-cylinder?

It's starting pretty well now, but it does get cold here.

Any ideas? As an aside I will say I've found some of these emails/tips to be really handy.

On our 3 cyl. perkins 135 diesel , there is a block heater fitted into a frostplug hole on the leftside of engine. I was at the Massey dealer in Vernon B.C. and they showed me one . They cost about $45 Thre are two kinds so check with a dealer.( Avenue machinery ) at Abbotsford B.C. Actually our 135 starts ok without heater down to 0 degree celsius.

Try a tankless heater installed in the lower radiator hose, just cut the hose, and install with clamps. Probably the easiest.

When we bought our gas MH50 up in northern Minnesota, that's how it was set up...heater in lower hose.
