I noticed where hydrolic fluid has been leaking from around my PTO. I leave my bush hog attached. Will this cause it to leak? Is it a major undertaking to repair this?

I have had my TO-20 for about twenty years and use
it a lot for bush-hogging and post hole digging.
I have to replace the PTO seal about every 7-10 years.
In fact, it just started leaking again recently. My
mechanical mentor at the MF dealership tells me that
the PTO bearing is probably fine but that I may have
worn a groove at the seal location on the shaft and
I can seat the seal slightly farther out to miss it.
It is not hard to replace but you need to drain your
rear end / transmission oil. It has been about 8 years
and as I remember, you just pull off the outer cover
and dig the seal out (metal band and all) and then
tap the new one in - remember - the lip to the oil
side. Good luck.
