After folowing this site for a good while, I jumped in with buying a '53 tractor. Overall seems in good shape, leaks to be expected.I intend to put a back blade on and plow snow (New Brunswick, Canada) through the winter. As I consider changing fluids, the manual says 10 W non-detergent oil for hydraulics, and suggests thinning it with kerosene for winter. I don't want to start blending my own brew, so my inclination is to use trans-hydraulic oil there. Is this advisable? For engine, manual suggests 10w for winter. Thoughts on this? I don't know if detergent or not was used before. I don't know that pulling the oil pan will happen till spring. Thoughts on this one? For transmission/differential, manual says 90 weight gear oil. From posts I see that should be either mineral or gear oil. Does it matter? There seems some leakage from the left axle so there may be a leak in the oil seal on the left side of the transmission. Also, is there much difference between regular grease and water pump grease? Is the latter available today? To late now as I put a squirt of regular grease in the pump, but... Much appreciate any thoughts.
