I have a M-H pony that was used for snow plowing. It starts and idles great but stalls when I increase the speed or put it under a load. It has a nice spark and no junk in the fuel bowl. What should I be lookng at? I would like to use it to plow with this year.

Hi J

How old is the gas in the tank ?
Even new gas mixed with old gas causes that

Cheaper test is remove all gas clean gas filter put new gas if nothing changes
put back the gas you removed.

Cost of this test = $ 00.00

Good luck

Joe.

Thanks for the advice. Looks like a carburator weekend. Fixing this old tractor has been fun, just don't tell the wife she thinks this is a 'honey do"

My Pony was doing the same thing. The problem for me was that it was not getting a good steady flow of fuel to the carb. I replaced the bowl with a simple looking shut of valve and installed a in line fuel filter.

The best thing is to check flow 1st. Turn off the fuel at the bowl, take the line off the carb and put it in a coffee can, and turn the fuel back on. It should be a steady flow that doesn't taper off. If there is no clog in the line, plug in the outlet of the tank, or gunk in the shutoff of the bowl then you may have a stuck needle valve. Sometimes I take a chance and "lightly love tap" the side of the carb about where the needle is. Mine usually stick open instead of closed, but it's possible. If none of this works, take it off and tear it down. There's a lot of little passageways in there... try not to miss any when you clean it. Remember to check float adjustment before you put it back together. Also don't forget to say a prayer to the "god of rusty iron" before trying it out. Good luck - ALAN

Do you have a book for it if so try adjusting the carb.

Also don't forget to check the load jet. May just need a little more fuel to the carb under load
