Another 255 question

I've been looking through a site on tractors and it said the 255 had 8 forwards and 2 reverses and had a category I hitch.

This 255 had 3 forwards on the gear shift and a reverse with a hi/lo. On the dash , there's a 2 position lever that when moved will give you double what's on the stick.

Does this sound like a 255?

The hood had been replaced or repainted and the "255" was new numbers.

255 tractors were equiped with 8 speeds and also with "Multi Power" which provided 12 speeds. The transmission for the Multi Power was a 3 speed with high and low which gave six speeds and the multi power offer high and low which doubled the speeds to 12, only on the tractors with multi power. Multi Power is a hydraulically operated high-low range unit which may be shifted while the tractor is moving.

The engine on the 255 was a Perkins AD4.203. This was a four cylinder engine, ID plate located on the air intake manifold on right side of engine.

The 255 had a category II hitch but the lift arms were equiped with category I or II sleeves. The top link was category II, used a 1" pin on the 255.

I have seen a MF245 Orchard tractor that had 255 decals. The 245 had the 3 cylinder (AD3.152) engine. The 245 orchard and 255 are very similar execpt for the engine.

One of the easiest way to tell the difference, count the fuel injection lines. On the 245 - 3 lines, on the 255 - 4 lines. On the 245, the engine fan will have an extension between the fan and water pump. The 255 will not have this extension because the engine is longer. Hope this will help!!
