Looks like you've got a 1945 model 81 Row Crop Massey Harris. The 81's were built from 1941 until 1946. They were quite similar to the 20's and the 22's (there was a posting on this board a couple of months ago about the differences between the 20's, 22's, 81's and 82's). I'm not too sure of the differences but I think a lot of it was sheet metal differences but the tractors all look very much the same to a non-expert. The row crop 1945's started with 403364 and the 1946's started with 404664 so it looks like about 1300 were made that year. I would say they're fairly rare, especially up here in Canada. I've never seen one at a show or for sale. I know that the Royal Canadian Air Force used the model 81's on airport tarmacks during WWII to tow aircraft and those were apparently painted some shade of blue. Good luck finding the side covers. There are guys who make them up new but they might send you to the poor house if you're as rich as I am.

Hello John - I would suspect that you've got a 101 or 102 Junior, probably a 101 if it is a gas carburetor and a regular manifold. There were other MH's with the flathead 4-cylinder Continental engines too but it sounds like you're had hinged sidecovers so it would probably be a 101. Those are hard to find, most of them being taken off and thrown in the scrap heap. The early versions (until about '42 or so) had a single hinged sidepanel on each side while after that, they had two covers per side, a more styled one (replacing the one mentioned earlier) and another one which latched in place under the tank cover. Now, sounds like the oval tin model/serial plate is missing, it should be on the left side of the tractor and pretty obvious if it is there. The serial number is also stamped into the top of the transmission between the cast iron shifting platform and the steel cover which bolts down at the top rear. The serial number should be facing out on the outside left edge as you stand beside the clutch pedal. It will be hard to find, probably filled in with crud, rust, paint, etc. but it will be there. Post the number here and we'll verify the model number and the year. If it is a 101 or 102 Junior, I've got a little bit of information here that you'd find interesting.

Also let us know if it's a cast frame or C-channel steel. This will be a difference between certain models with the 124 cu in.

Hey, you're right, I forgot about those 20's, 22's, 81's, etc with the presseded steel frame. It will be interesting to see what's there. Looking forward to finding out.
