If you can look at a factory parts book you can get a good idea of what year the tractor is. The parts book has some nice illustrations which help determine the year by using the illustrations and also some of the casting numbers help determine, i f not the exact year, at least if the particular part in question is on an early of later production tractor.

Look at the left rear of the instrument panel, above your left knee when in the operators position. All 1967 and later 135's had the S/N plate there. 1964-1966 135's had the S/N plate either on the side of the platform assembly behind the air filter for diesels or on the opposite side of the platform assembly for gasers. If you don't see a S/N plate at any location start looking for a 4-hole pattern approximatly 2x2 1/2 inches at the same locations. The holes are less than 1/16 of an inch in diameter. That's roughly the pattern of the S/N plate. Be sure to put your hand up under the left rear of the instrument panel. You may feel four blobs of bondo. Strange things happen to some tractors when getting them ready to sell. If you don't see the S/N plate or 4-hole pattern on either side of the platform assembly or at the rear of the instrument panel then it's a safe bet a previous owner replaced the instrument panel with another one probably from a bone yard. If the S/N plate is missing, you can still get a good idea of age of the tractor but you need the MF Parts Book which has S/N callouts when some changes occurred. For example vertical or horizontal air filter, alternator or generator, the wiring harness. Good Luck Jim

Doesn't it have the ser. # whacked into the left of the transmission housing right below the shifters?

I have a MF135 that has no plate on the dash. I found my data plate on the right side of the battery box behind the aircleaner. Mine is a very early 135, Number 204 off the line in 1964.
