passed up a MH 30 for $600. the grill had bunches of cracks that had been welded. the engine vibrated the whole tractor at what seemed full throttle. i'm not use to MH's but it seemed to be running too much RPM's compared to by IH H anyway. is vibration usual to MH? is it caused by long drive shaft to chain coupling? i think the old MH are good looking tractors, but afraid to take the leap. Thanks

Shouldn't rev past 1700-1800 max. What's it sound like at idle? Here any clunking when you suddenly give it gas? That's main bearing problem.
Slapping noise is worn piston pins. Are the engine mount bolts nice and tight?
Oil pressure up to 11 to 15.?

It's hard to say without seeing it. I can put a cup of coffee on the engine of my MH30 and won't spill.

It could just be a tune up problem but then it could be serious. I'd go by your suspicions and leave it.

By the way, if your thinking of getting another 30, now is the time to make an offer on it if the clutch and tranny are OK. Say 300 tops.
This way you've got a parts store on wheels.
