I've got a little mf 1010, i replaced the air filter (big help) and fuel filter...and it runs smooth anywhere say below half throttle...but when I open it up I'm getting a subtle sputtering sort of sound...not quite 100% clear...opinions please

A friend had a rough running IH after a full rebuild, tested injectors, injector pump etc - all OK. An injector was leaking and this was due to an old sealing washer sat on some carbon build up, the seats were cleaned and new wahers put in which improved things but still not perfect. as a last reort he replaced EVERY copper or fibre washer and every O ring in the entire fuel system. Results - Perfectly smooth running engine, must be due to an air leak.
