On the key switch there are 4 terminals B:C:S:D
The B is power
The C is for charging
The S is for Starting
The D is for the magnito

Is there a resistor built inside the key switch which connects the magnito to power? I can not get any spark and I have used a megaohm meter and have found no connection to the D terminal to any of the other terminals. Please Advise.

Joe: On most magnetos a ground source is needed to stop the engine. A Magneto doesn't require any power from the battery. Check the terminal "D" which in most cases will be grounded with the switch "Off" and open with the switch "On".
Good Luck, Ken

Ken, Thanks for the information what you say is very logical. I did check the key switch with an Ohm meter and I do not have any connection from the D terminal to the case of the switch. I must have a bad key switch. I don't have any spark from the magnito when I try and start the tractor. I did by chance have my finger on the wire from the Mag to the key switch and it got my attention. So, there is some current being generated by the Mag but, maybe not enough. Do you know of any way to check out the mag or is it just a matter of trying another mag?

Joe: Just disconnect the magneto wire that goes to the key switch (to eliminate the connection) then crank the engine and have a friend hang on to a plug wire. They will tell you if the mag is working. Or use a spark tester at a plug wire. If you have to replace the key switch and have trouble finding one, try a large lawn mower dealer or NAPA for a key switch for magneto ignition. Don't overlook the fact that you should find points & condenser in the mag. They may need replacing or serviced. Good luck, Ken

Thanks again Ken, I will have to get a six pack of friends to do the testing. Or give one friend a six pack. It is fun to shoot him across the floor. I did have to repair the Mag. The first couple of times I did not have a spark but, once repaired... about 10 feet he would go.... (Just joking))
