I just acquired a 64? MF35 diesel & intend to buy a 5' bush hog. It was suggested that I limit the bush hog to 4'. Opinions welcomed

I have a '61 MF35 with a Perkins diesel, and use a 5' bush hog on it. I could probably have gone to a six footer, but felt I would be taxing the tractor unduly. The five footer works very well, and covers the tire tracks. Happy and safe tractoring.

mine is a 1962 gas. i run a 5 foot on mine with no problems. i don't sharpen blades ever, sharp blade i beleive leave sharp stobs (flat tires) dull blade bust up stobs. if i can push it over i mow it so far 4 inch sumac is my bigest. old bush hog brand has a removeable left side whitch lets rocks etc out. good luck and happy tractoring.

I have experience with a 135 and used a 5' bush hog. There were times I was cutting heavy stuff and the tractor bogged down, but using a lower gear and/or cutting less (raising cutter) worked fine.

I have a 1964 3 cyl Perkins diesel FE35 with a five foot brush hog. I don't work it real hard, but it doesn't seem to be too much. I mow several acres.

I have a MF35 gas about the same year model as you have and run a 5 foot brush hog all the time. I cut open range land and have never had any problems. You can always limit the size you are mowing. I usually run in 2nd high or 1st high depending on the height of the grass. Cut cedars, mesquite up too about 2" in thickness. Keep the blades sharp and check u-joints and oil in brush hog religously...

From my limited experience with the MF 35, I would believe it would handle a 5' bush hog very well! If your buying a used one, get a new set of blades and keep them sharp! This will help your tractor and bush hog do a better job.

If you should get into some heavy growth and you feel that five foot is over loading your tractor, simple take 2/3s or a 1/2 cut until you get into lighter growth!
