Fix it or buy another tractor ?

My MF135 w/loader caught fire when the fuel line apparently ruptured or sediment bowl cracked, ignited from a plug wire and the whole gas tank (almost full) drained and burned for about 10 minutes before the fire dept got there. The insurance company totaled it out at $5600 (the estimate with new parts and labor to fix was $6300). Is it worth buying it back for salvage and fixing with used parts for about $3.5 to 4K and having a tractor in good shape with new paint, or should I cut my losses and look for a new tractor ?

Same happened to me. How did the fire dept put the fire out? How hot did it get? If they used water or water has been allowed to get into places it shouldn't be it will be a problem.Hot gear boxes suck it in. Are tyres intact - my parts man uses this to assess whether it is worth a rebuild or damage is to severe.
Most important - can you do without the tractor for 12 months while you do the rebuild? If no then your only option is to purchase another.

It got pretty hot, burned about 10-15 feet high for about 10 minutes, melted the aluminum control handles right off the loader controls. They hosed it down with water pretty heavily. Two tires (one front and one rear) got burned up. Talked to the insurance company today, they're going to cut me a check for the $5600 and I can bid on it for salvage, but I think I'll just throw in the towel and start looking for another tractor with loader. Sure hated to see that one go, was a nice tractor and did everything I needed it to do.

Sounds like the insurance company is trying to
take advantage of you.3500 to 4000 is way to much
for a burnt 135.I've seen 2 sell in the last
year,both burnt,1 with loader.One brought 1500.
the other 2000.A parts yard sure wouldn't pay
that kind of money. You can buy running 135's
for 3500 to 4500.

You're looking at a tough call. It's going to depend on what's left that's usable on that tractor. If the damage is limited to the engine and the block is in tact, it might be worth it. Your cost of parts is going to be much less than the estimated repair just for the labor that you can't charge yourself. The 135 is a great tractor.
