The 44's were the most popular and largest # of production in the MH line. The GR means (G)gas (R)row crop. This was probably the most common of the 44 line. Yours is a 1949 according to my s/n book. It has a 260 cu in engine (real work horse) and you will see a lot of them at the Co. fairs on antique tractor pull night.

Alan is correct. g- means gas engine, r- means row crop tractor that should have the narrow or "tri-cycle" front end. Just aquired a 44-gr myself last week. Good shape and runs good except for at full throttle where it starts to run rough. Any ideas anyone?
