MF85 Rear Axle seals info Transmission seal Question

I finally got done replacing the axle seals & brakes in my MF85 so I thought I'd post some info for any other 85-90 owners. The seals are no longer available from MF; the replacement I used were Chicago Rawhide seals Part# 21269 ( it takes 2 per side, about $14 a piece ). I also found out after I did one side the gasket behind the plate that holds the seals was bad also. Actually one side had a gasket, the other side had a rubber O-ring. I replaced these with new rubber O-rings that were 3/32 x 7 x 7 3/16. I highly recommend you replace these O-rings if you have your tractor apart, so you don't have to pull it apart a second time, like I did.

Now I have to split the tractor between the engine & transmission to replace the front transmission seal. Does anyone have any words of advice on doing this? And, if anyone has any questions about pulling axles, feel free to contact me.

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff, I split my 35 recently (quite a bit smaller of course!), but two things that really helped were an alignment tool for the clutch and using two jacks one on each side of the split. That way you canadjust height AND have some control over angle. There are some assembly notes listed in the tech tips at this site that are also very helpful hope this helps!
