These new generations of email viruses steal addresses from your email address list, then can make them into a new 'sender' and combine them with any of the victims recently sent messages to make 'new' virus-laden emails. SIRCAM can and will re-send anything that was in your sent email.. eventually, it could end up going to virtually anyone in the world ! (Including confidential or embarassing items..) If Big Dean was in somebody's email list, it can use his name as a 'sender' to propagate the virus even though he never got the virus. This was designed to help 'hide' the virus and trick people into opening it. I even received a virus-laden message "from myself" via an old email address that some spammer had apparently captured... then apparently the spammer got the SirCam virus. (poetic justice ?) It's a wild world out there.. 1) Don't open email attachments until you verify that the sender was legit and actually sent it. 2) Get a virus scanner and keep that puppy current. 3) Gett a 'personal firewall' such as BlackIce or Zone Alarm... You'll be amazed at how many internet probes you are getting and what they are doing to your machine ! www.nai.com www.norton.com Are websites from two prominent anti-virus manufacuturers.. they post bullitens and more detailed information about viruses and hoaxes. bbott
