Purchased my first MH 44 special. I need decals and an original seat. No luck so far in finding them. Help would be appreciated on info where to find them. Thanks

I am helping a friend w/o Internet access try to find the rubber bushings that go between the clutch shaft and the transmission shaft for a MH 44 Special. Any help is appreciated.

Often wondered, how is a 44 special different than a regular 44? I imagine that the specials all had factory hydraulics, but a ton of the regular 44's did as well. Do you know if they're any different and if they are, in what way(s)?

The big difference that I know of is that the 44 had a 260 CID engine and the 44-special had a 277 CID engine. There was also a live PTO option that I don't believe was available on the regular 44. Other than that, they are basicly the same tractor...

You are correct on the engine upgrade for the Specials. However, the live PTO option was available on earlier models. I have a 44 with the option.

The row crops differ with the bigger bore 4" as opposed to 3.875" and the cast iron front wheels. Standards differ by the engine bore, cast iron front wheeels, different cast iron rear wheels with double bevel rims (44's had single bevels), longer front frame and as a result a larger fuel tank. The frame and tank were previously only used on 44 row crops. Also wide fenders with platform became standard equipment. From 49 to 53, 44 standards came with flare fenders as standard equipment and crown (wide) as an option.

Lets focus on the real 44 Special, the row crop
and high arch, as these were the pulling beast,
choking competition. The live clutch goes back to
1950, with disc brakes and diesel on the 44D. By
October 1952, the Special appeared, along with
the 40K series 44, very similar, but two different tractors. Both shared a heavier front
pedestal, the Special WFE had tie rod steering forward of the steering box. Other features not
yet detailed were depth-o-matic II, an upgraded hydraulic system, easily adaptable to dual control. "Hitch-All" 3 point, the best until the
444's perfect center link. Fenders had spacers
and filler bars, fuel tank cap closer to the dash, trip plate to lock the larger faced brake
pedals, velvet ride seat post shortened, added
hydraulic filter on return line by tank, visable
screen on air stack cap, updated throttle lever
on the steering column, a heavy slab of cast in
all the wheels(rears close to 300 lbs). With the
options, this was an incredible tractor of unlimited strength. As good as it ever got, M-H.

K&K Antique tractors have about the nicest decals I have seen. They are higher price than some of the others, but the are laser cut so there is no film between the letters/numbers. I saw a sample at a farm show and they were sharp. Their phone is 317-398-9883 and there website is below. If you want to take the cheap route, your local TSC can order them for your for about 28 bucks. Can't help on the seat
