Front loader leakdown

I am contemplating my first tractor purchase. I have found a MF 202-"Workbull" that has a dedicated loader. Asking price $4,500 and my mechanic says it needs new tires and clutch, past that, seems in reasonable condition. He thinks it's worth closer to $3,000 at a time they were asking $6,000 and have recently "reduced" their price, so I am holding back for a while longer, and in fact, might not purchase it.

My question is regarding the bucket. If the machine were to be turned off with the bucket raised, should it stay in that position, or over time slowly sink to the ground. If it should sink to the ground, in what period of time...2 minutes, 3 days? Is the answer different if there is a load in the bucket?

I am not asking the merits of turning off a machine with loader in raised position, I am looking for what it should do so when I get chance to inspect if further I might know what to expect if I stop it in raised position.

I was checking it out other day and the 3pt hitch was raised (had nothing attached) and when I moved lever it lowered as I thought it might.

Any input is appreciated.
Thanks Richard

So long as nothing breaks like a hose, theoretically the bucket should stay up. Load will affect how long it will stay up as that sets the pressure on the leaks in the cylinders, plumbing, and valve, all of which contribute to the loader sinking. If it sinks in minutes its probably in need of attention, but I don't expect it to stay up for days. There have been injuries from expecting hydraulically held loads to stay and having them leak down unexpectedly. All loader manuals say, don't expect the loader to stay elevated without power. Lower it before you get off the tractor.

Cylinders are not difficult to rebuild unless welded after assembly. Seal kits avarage $8 to 15 and it takes maybe a half hour of labor. More if they are particularly hard to get apart and its your first time. I hire a machine shop that's accustomed to doing them. Gets the job done quicker than I'd do it even counting the time to go to the machine shop.
