When looking at the rebuild kits for my MF35, I notice they sell sleeves with a slightly bigger bore,(3 3/8") for the Z134 motor. That bore is the same bore as the Z145 motor, so is a longer stroke what they use to get more cubes in the 145? Do these motors use the same block? Could I use the Z145 crank in my Z134 motor to raise the cubes, and compression? Like us old timers say, "there's no substitute for cubic inches". Also, my motor has 6.6 comp ratio, but my manual says there was an 8.1 hi altitude version made, but not to be used at lower altitudes. Anyone know why not, and, can we still get the higher comp parts? I think the longer stroke would bring up the compression, but to what ratio? Thanks for your help.

Don't know the particulars of what will work in your Z-145 but when you go to a crank with a longer stroke, you have to change piston rods to shorter ones. If you don't, you'll try to ram the pistons up through the head.

Let us know how it works, if you try it.

Tyler: You are right. I would need to check rod sizes and piston height. I should have remembered that 'cause that's what's changed in the stoker kits hot rodders use in their small block Chevys and Fords.

This string is 3 years old, hopefully somebody is still watching.

I have a gas MF35 with standard engine, but need the higher compression high altitude rig as tractor is now at 6300 feet and not coming down.

Any ideas where to swap or how to modify this one (I think I read that isn't feasible)? Tractor isn't pulling well or running smoothly - I suspect mixture is too rich also, but that old carb doesn't have much to adjust, and I've tried leaning it out.

Any ideas, including who wants to swap or where to seek a swap, are most welcome.
