My MF135 hydraulic lift shakes or jerks when raising it and when holding a load off the ground. The service manual says a probable cause is a stuck valve in the pump. I removed the pump and disassembled the valves expecting to find a stuck valve or a broken spring. However, everything was free and looked ok. I reinstalled the pump and it is still doing the same thing. The lift has plenty of power and goes all the way up and down. It just shakes on the way up and when holding a load.

I cleaned the filter. The tractor only has 1200 hours on it. What else could it be?

The jerking motion is caused by a bad valve(s) on the outlet side of the 4 pistons located in the pump. When the pump pistons pull oil into the small cylinders, the intake valves closes, the oil is then forced out through the exhaust valves, and then travels to the ram. If one of the exhaust valves does not seal, the weight on the 3 point hitch will force oil back into the cylinder, the intake valve is closed and the piston will force this returned oil back into the system causing the jerking motion. You will sometimes hear a hammering sound. If all the exhaust valves are sealing, there is no weight or force aganist the pistons until oil is again sent to pistons when the control valve is moved. The new valve kit cost about $50, but you can buy the four (4) new chambers (there are actually 2 chambers with 2 cylinders and 2 valve groups in each chamber) that will have new valves for about $125. Even if you only bought the valve kit, you still need the tool to re-seat the chambers.
I have also noticed that the new kits have square shoulder snap rings where as the MF135 had round shoulder rings. The square shoulder snap ring will not work in the chambers that were made for the round rings. Taking all this in consideration, you can install the new chambers for a lot less money. Just bought 2 new chambers, 2 new piston groups for less that $150. The price of a new pump is near $1,000. Saved over $800 and the unit works great. Good luck!! Ralph

Thanks for the reply Ralph. It sounds like it is pump rebuild time. Do you have any recommendations where to order the parts from. I have the catalog from Quality Farm & Fleet. Are their parts good quality?

I get my parts from a local tractor parts store. The owner has been in business for over 30 years. Before that, he sold parts for a Case and Ford dealer. He obtains his parts from suppliers that are well known. Noticed on the MF135 parts that they were made in U.K.. Notice the same parts at the MF dealer were made in U.K., could have been the same manufacture. Have seen the name on the parts shipping label before, very well known company. We be at the shop first of the week and will get the name of the supplier. You might contact the supplier and they could direct you to someone close to where you are located. Tractor Parts Company, (336 789 1387), located in Mount Airy, NC is were I obtained my parts. From my experience, this is the best place I have been able to locate an type of tractor parts, (Quality and price). There personal are the most experience on tractor part that I know. Good luck!!
