I was wondering if any of you knew of a better hydraulic filter (aftermarket?) for the MF 175. The canister that came originally on the tractor just doesn't seem like it does that good a job of filtering the oil. Is it possible to rig a filter to the SCV's and turn on the hydraulic pump and let it run every couple of months in addition to the original underhood canister filter. Let me know what you think.

Thanks a lot
jeff

The under hood "filter" on that tractor is actually more of a screen, it doesn't trap the rally fine dirt. If you have an auxillary pump, even if you have no valves on, it you can mount a filter somewhere and plumb it to the plate on the left side of the transmission. If you have the aux. pump, you either have a valve hooked up there, or there is just a little by-bass loop. Either way you have to find out which is the pressure side and which is the return. Since I don't have the tractor right in front of me, I can't remember. The filter housing should have an arrow to show which way the oil flows. If you have valves, it is very important for the filter to be on the return side, otherwise it will probably burst the first time you operate the valve. Tractors with Multi-power or independent PTO are more likely to have the aux. pump.
