I know nothing of tractors, but have been given a 135 with a bush-hog to use in the up-keep of a farm. There is no manual with the tractor. I have a manual coming to me, but in the mean time, what type of crankcase oil should be used? That is, what weight would be best for all around use?

My 1969 MF-135 owner's manual (Perkins diesel and gas) specifies 10W30 year round but will accept straight weights.

My 1968 owner's manual (Perkins diesel and Continental gas) specifies straight weights, but will accept 10W30. Did Perkins make it different or did MF just decide 10W30 was the better oil?

Since there's a generic problem in the Continental with rocker arm lubrication, I think that 40 is going to give more trouble than help.

The best 10W-30 in the store rated for diesel service. It will say on the bottle if its good for diesel service. Oil change interval is 100 hours.

Where does Paul C. Van A;styne live on this planet ??? Oil viscosity depends of the temperature around you.
Winter vs summer demands different oils.
