I just bought a 1971 165 that had a stuck oil pressure gage. I brought the tractor home, changed oil (Rotella 15-40wt)and filter and installed a new Stewart Warner gage. Pressure is 18 at startup and drops to 10-12 psi at 1200rpm when hot. Idle pressure is only 2-3psi when hot. Is that enough pressure to oil the engine or should I park it till it's fixed? Engine runs fine and there are no strange knocks or noises. Any ideas? Thanks

I would check the oil pressure with another gauge and see if I had the same reading. If you do this will not be enough oil pressure for extended use. You can pull the pan off and check the main and rod bearings and also the oil pump relief valve.
