I have a Massey Ferguson 165 with a Perkins diesel engine. The engine is blowing oil out the dip-stick from time. More often than not now. I have checked the crank vent (in the valve cover) and it is clear. Any help as to the cause will be appreciated. Thank You Paul

Check the compression to see if you have a cracked piston.

I have experienced this several times with Perkins Engines. My father had a MF165 that suddenly starting blowing oil out the dipstick tube. Found out that head gasket had failed because center head bolts were loose. Also have experienced the same problem with a MF245 and MF135 orchard tractors that I own. Removed heads and found failed head gaskets on both units. My brother has my father's MF135 orchard tractor and the same problem, failed head gasket.
I had a Massey Dealer tell me several years ago that this was impossible, but replacing head gaskets have corrected all four tractors. You may want to keep this in mind while troubleshooting. Good luck!! Ralph

Paul, I agree with Ralph. It is possibly a head gasket. If pressure is getting into the sump, it can only be thru a gasket, or a cracked piston or ring. A compression test will give you more to go on. Best of luck.
