Just bought a 78 MF230 Gasoline Tractor with 1000 Hours. The Temp Gauge pegs in the red right after starting. There's sufficient coolant and no other indication that it is overheating. Anyone have any ideas?

Is your gauge mechanical or electric? If electric, you probably need a new sender and gauge, since they are matched. If mechanical, the gauge and sender are one unit, don't separate them! You'll probably find that the gauge has a 2"- 2 1/4" diameter body (like my MF 35) and can be bought at any auto supply, tractor, or hot rod store at a reasonable price.
