My MF 1085 Multi-Power has a hydraulic pump (auxilliary)problem. The Ferguson pump, draft control, etc are not working well also. I have to repair the hydraulic but I am not sure if it is a job beyond my skills. I have all basic tools, pullers, hydraulic press, shop/operator/ parts manuals from MF (I have already repaired successfully a Ford select-o-speed trans). Should I do the job myself or is it going to be a nightmare without special tools or know-how ?
Thanks, Dave

It is not terribly difficult. I've done hydrostatic trannies before and they are much harder. Do a pressure test first to see because there are sealing rings in the bell housing that the must be good. I put a pump in a 1085 and the multipower worked then when I was changing a gear in the transmission I replace the rings and the housing they go in and it made it alot snappier. There are O-rings in the lines coming off the auxillary pump to, take a good look when u take it apart, they don't give those pumps away.

Dave, The MF hydraulics are pretty straight forward, I would think that if you have experience with the Ford Select-o-speed then you should be able to handle the MF. I split my 180 last winter and replaced the aux. hyd. pump by myself on a saturday. I have never had any luck with rebuilt pumps, I always go back with a brand new pump. Study up on it before turning a wrench, you shouldn't need much in the way of special tools. Go for it!! Good Luck. Johnny in E.Tx
