Is it a TO-20 or TO-30?

I just bought a Ferguson tractor; the owner said its a TO-30. However, the serial number plate on the dash is missing, so I don't have that information to help me ID this my Fergie with any certainty.

Before I plunk down my hard-earned cash on manuals for it, can anyone provide some easy-to-spot differences between the TO-20 & the 30? It doesn't matter much to me which I have, as I got a good deal on what appears to be a solid machine.

An old timer at work was telling me the TO-30 had a gear-shift starter setup; my tractor has what appears to be an "S" in the top righthand position of the shift pattern on the transmission cover. Is he remembering correctly, or did the TO-20 have the same arrangement?

Thanks for any help.

Jim

TO-20 had the oil filter in the bottom pan accessable thru a plate on the bottom of the pan . TO-30 had the oil filter on the side of the block.

Jim, the To-20 and even later Tea models all have the start position in shift pattern. check the casting number on the engine block. the 20 has z-120 cast on the side the 30 has z-129. the filter on the side is also a giveaway for the 30 as mentioned. If youve driven both its easy to tell the power difference of the 30.

Thanks for the info; that confirms mine is a TO-30. Now to order those manuals!
