Hydraulic leak

I have 1960's model MF 135. There is a hydraulic leak on the left side of the rear axle center housing at the hydraulic pump positioning dowel pin access point (a small oval plate held in position by two studs with nuts). Does anyone know if I can remove this plate and replace the gasket without the pump moving? Someone has told me that the pump would not move if I only removed the plates on either side ONE AT A TIME. Also is the dowel pin affixed to the plate or does th3 plate merely hold the dowel pin in place? Thanks in advance for any help.

Gentlemen -

The dowel is originally welded to the plate. It often comes loose, but can't fall out.

We use silicone bathtub caulking for gasket material - for most of the transmission gaskets.
The surface has to be clean and dry, but works better than gaskets for controlling leaks.

You may have a problem with oil leakage on these plates, preventing the use of silicone without draining the trans and diff.

It's nice to have a spotless tractor, but I've kindof resigned myself to accepting some seepage everywhere as long as it doesn't drip.

Have fun, guys!

Jack
