I just bought a 175 (didn't pay much for it). It is a 6 speed with multipower. I don't believe the multipower works at this time. When I was backing the tractor off the trailer the transmission seemed to disengage and we rolled off. Then while parking the tractor I was going down a small grade and the tractor was free-wheeling again. The clutch doesn't seem to be slipping on level ground (going both forward and reverse). Does anybody have any ideas what might be wrong? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

One time the MP on my 255 seem to quit and I feared the worse. I think the linkage just stuck and with a little WD40 and time the MP started working again and hasn't let up! Now as I understand it you can operate in L MP but that reduces the flow of oil to certain trans parts and may cause trans failure sooner. This is a good question to refer to Big Dean!

IMHO, as good as tractor may be without MP, it will be twice or three times the tractor with the MP!

Good luck!

We have a 165 with a none working multipower. I was told the tractor will always work in low multipower? The only problem is that it free wheels in low multipower. On hilly country I shift to high multi power and the engine breaking works. Our 165 has a 2 stage clutch and pto has works off clutch and not hydraulics. We have no intentions of rebuilding multipower any time soon.

When the low multipower is engaged, you will not have any benefit of engine braking which would cause the symptoms you describe.

Sounds like your multipower is playing up. A little bit like the auto in a car. Probably means you will need to break the tractor and fix. One of the reasons I have always avoided MF multipower machines. I believe your PTO will also be a problem whilst your multipower is kaput.
Sorry about the bab news.

yup..... we had a 285 do that.....adventually stopped altogether

ultimately ya will have to split the tractor

while ya there throw a clutch in too....

it will cost..... but think of it as an investment.....ya end up with a great tractor..... and gives ya a chance to learn ya machine

another thing which may do it is lack of backend oil.....i think..... our one used to let go on slopes.....lol..... then we just point down hill and hope for the best!..... we got a bit of use out of it before it stoped....

The multi power is not that hard to fix, although it might cost a bit of money, I really like mine, it was also broke when I got it. Fix it if you can. Johnny
